Real Madrid reportedly agreed to pay Chelsea €160m for Eden Hazard – €60m more than the €100m fee that was initially reported.

Hazard completed his long-awaited move to Los Blancos last summer, but saw his first season in the capital hit by injury and inconsistency.

According to Belgian outlet HLN, Madrid agreed to pay for the Belgian in three installments:

  1. 2019 – €40m
  2. 2020 – €56m
  3. 2021 – €64m

This knowledge surfaced after AFC Tuzibe – where Hazard began his career – revealed they were due €800,000 from the transfer.

These figures can explain why Madrid are so reluctant to spend this summer, while Chelsea are doing the opposite with a host of high-profile arrivals.

Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz is expected to follow Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech and Thiago Silva to Stamford Bridge this month.

Hazard scored just one goal in 22 appearances last season.
