Ronaldo — the original one — is one of the few players to have seen both sides of the Clásico rivalry.

The Brazilian spent a season at Barcelona in the 1990s and later joined Real Madrid, where he played from 2002 to 2006.

And although the most prolific time of his career was during his spell at the Camp Nou, Ronaldo says he feels ‘more connected’ to Real Madrid.

When asked to choose between the two clubs, he told Esporte Interativo: “I feel much more grateful to and linked to Madrid, despite having had my best season at Barcelona.”

Ronaldo pointed out that he was not the only Brazilian player to leave Barcelona on bad terms.

“In the end, my history with Barca was very bad, similar to the one Neymar had,” he explained.

“Barcelona have always had issues with Brazilian players: Neymar, Romario, Ronaldinho and me.

“We were all treated badly by the club in the end, despite all our contributions and dedication.”

However, he did concede that Barcelona as a city is a great place to be.

“Despite all that, Barcelona is an incredible city,” he admitted.

“But I feel more linked to Real Madrid, with whom I work as a club ambassador.”
