Reinier Jesus stands as one of Real Madrid’s most disappointing signings in recent years In 2020, the Spanish capital giants shelled out €30 million to Flamengo for the Brazilian midfielder, convinced he was signing the next big thing in South American football.
The deal was pushed by Juni Calafat, who in a rare move decided to act proactively ahead of other European giants. The outcome, however, has been a clear disappointment.
Five years later, Reinier, who has never played a single minute for Real Madrid’s first team, is close to terminating his contract with the club, despite still being under contract until June 2026.
Indeed, according to SPORT, Reinier has reached a full agreement over personal terms with Atletico Mineiro.
Indeed, the 23-year-old and the Brazilian club have agreed upon his salary and contract duration, which will run for four and a half years, until 31 December 2029.
Now, the second phase of the operation remains – an agreement between the two clubs.

Atletico Mineiro not willing to pay a transfer fee, as Reinier does not currently attract any significant offers. They want him either on a free transfer or on a zero-cost loan.
Negotiations between the two clubs are already underway. Real Madrid are open to releasing the player but wants to retain 50% of any future transfer fee.
Atletico Mineiro, represented by football executive Paulo Brack, is attempting to negotiate a lower percentage.
A deal appears close, as Real Madrid have no interest in prolonging talks over a player who is not in their plans.
Reinier’s spell at Real Madrid has been disastrous. Since joining, he has gone on four consecutive loan spells: Borussia Dortmund (two seasons), Girona, Frosinone, and most recently Granada, in Spain’s second division.
He failed to establish himself at any of those clubs and left each of them without making a lasting impact. Across all his loans, he accumulated just 105 official matches, scoring seven goals and providing eight assists.
Now 23 years old, Reinier appears set to start a new chapter back in Brazil. Expectations surrounding his future are not high and the attacking midfielder will hope to get his career back on track.
