There’s only six weeks to go until Toni Kroos’ Real Madrid contract expires, and it’s still yet to be known whether he is going to stay on for another 12 months. The 34-year-old is yet to give anything away – not only externally, but also internally.

At Real Madrid, there is a degree of calmness over the situation, especially with the upcoming Champions League final taking precedence over any contract negotiations. However, Diario AS have reported that nervousness is also felt within Real Madrid, as they currently have no idea whether Kroos will extend his stay by another 12 months.

By this stage last year, Kroos had already made it clear to Real Madrid that he would be extending his contract, but on this occasion, it’s radio silence.

It’s interesting to note that Kroos wants to retire at a very high level, rather than dragging out his career for an extra few years. He’s currently playing exceptional football, and with a sixth Champions League title possibly on the way, it could end up being a fitting moment for the German midfielder to walk away from Real Madrid.
