In a recent report, Defensa Central stated that Real Madrid have been offered a chance to land AZ Alkmaar full-back Owen Wijndal. It has been claimed that the Dutch talent’s agent, Mino Raiola has offered Los Blancos a chance to sign his client at the end of this season.
Wijndal has proven his worth as a productive full-back in Dutch football during this campaign and deserves a lot of credit for putting in a handful of influential displays on the left side of Alkmaar’s backline. The 22-year-old has participated in 36 matches for the Dutch club this season, finding the back of the net once and securing ten assists across multiple competitions.
The Zaandam-born talent has been a consistent performer at both ends of the field as he is averaging 1.3 tackles, 0.9 interceptions, 1.0 clearances, 0.8 shots, 1.3 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per game in the Dutch Eredivisie. He has even been accurate with his ball distribution after making 85.2% of his attempted passes in the Dutch top tier (stats via whoscored).

Wijndal can use his quickness to make some driving runs with the ball down the left flank. He has established himself as a solid defender at the back and is a decent crosser of the ball as well. The Dutch sensation is usually tidy with his passing and has got a great work ethic.
Hence, Wijndal will fit into Carlo Ancelotti‘s playing style quite well at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. Furthermore, he will serve as an excellent, long-term successor to Marcelo at the Madrid club.
Therefore, Wijndal will be a great choice for Los Blancos as he will enhance the quality of their first XI. At 22, the future is quite promising for the Alkmaar youth product as long as he continues to take strides towards improving his overall game over the next few years. Thus, Real Madrid would be wise to engineer a move to bring Wijndal to the Spanish capital during this summer transfer window.
