Real Madrid enjoyed a sensational 2024 on all fronts as it was a complete year in every sense of the word.

Domestically, they were crowned the champions of La Liga while they also took home the UEFA Champions League title to be crowned the champions of Europe. Their third trophy in 2024 last season was the Spanish Super Cup that they lifted in January.

They then began their new season by lifting the UEFA Super Cup and then went on to win the Intercontinental Cup, thus lifting five pieces of silverware in the same calendar year.

The best team in the world

Real Madrid have now been named the best team in the world for 2024 by IFFHS – the International Federation of Football History and Statistics.

In fact, it is the fifth time they are taking home that accolade after previously winning it in 2000, 2002, 2014 and 2017.

It was, quite simply, a no-competition for Real Madrid for no club in Europe’s top 5 leagues could boast of a better record in 2024 and their status as football’s best team is thus a no-brainer.

2025, however, has not got off to the best of starts for Los Blancos. A defeat in the final of the Spanish Super Cup saw them hammered 5-2 by Barcelona to lose the cup and it remains to be seen if they can turn their situation around.

Real Madrid still have four pieces of silverware to sight for this season – the Copa del Rey, La Liga, UEFA Champions League and the FIFA Club World Cup. Should they manage to score all four, they could win the IFFHS title for the sixth time next year.
