The arrival of Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga ensured that the future of Real Madrid’s midfield was in safe hands. While their signings were rejoiced by fans across the globe, it did not come as great news to the likes of Dani Ceballos.

The Spaniard has found it difficult to see minutes this season and has only seen the occasional sporadic start. After a relatively strong show against Mallorca, Ancelotti gave him a second start on Sunday.

Yet, there seems to be no change in the club’s stance over his renewal. According to reports from MARCA, Ceballos has still not received any extension offer from Real Madrid and the plan is for him to leave the club next summer.

The midfielder’s contract with the club runs out in 2023. Though the club stand to lose from his departure as a free agent, Los Blancos are willing to go ahead with the operation as he has no place in Ancelotti’s plans.

His exit will also go in hand with Madrid targetting Jude Bellingham. They do face a list of competitors for his signature, but are confident their pursuit will pay off.

In 53 minutes against Osasuna, Ceballos completed 94.3% of his passes and also provided two key passes. While he has not been particularly bad in either of his appearances, Real Madrid prefer the younger options in their reserves over the 26-year-old.

Nevertheless, the manager will continue to count on Ceballos this season, especially with the hectic schedule ahead. The player can look to turn his situation around in the coming months with a positive run of form. However, the mountain appears too steep to climb now.
