Just when it appeared that Dani Ceballos had a foot in Olympique Marseille after a long transfer negotiation, the player rejected the move as he saw it to be a step back in his career.
Rumours suddenly began floating that the midfielder was prioritising a move to Real Betis, his boyhood club and the team he has longed to return to for several years now.
COPE, however, now bring to light that the move is unlikely to go through and that the player, for all practical purposes, may have complicated his situation by rejecting a completed negotiation.
As relayed by the outlet, Ceballos has informed Real Betis through his entourage that he could leave Real Madrid for a sum of around €10 to €12 million – the same fee the Ligue 1 side were willing to pay for him.

Los Verdiblancos, however, are not planning to pay a transfer fee in any capacity to sign him despite his desire. To make matters worse, they do not see signing him to be a priority at the moment.
The player, thus, will not join Real Betis this summer despite rejecting the French offer and pushing for them to sign him.
In fact, he may have dealt his own future a massive blow as he could well stay at Real Madrid now.
There is no doubt that Xabi Alonso will provide the midfielder with minutes should he stay at the club, but there is little to no chance that he can stretch it to anything more than that.
With Arda Guler and Franco Mastantuono rising to prominence, the pecking order in midfield has after all changed, and Ceballos is nowhere among the front-runners.
