Real Madrid are now on the cusp of being confirmed as the champions of La Liga, following their 2-0 win over Cadiz at the Santiago Bernabeu today.

Second-half strikes from Brahim Diaz, Jude Bellingham, and Joselu sealed the deal for Carlo Ancelotti’s men, who will now have their eyes on the game between Barcelona and Girona as the result of that game could confirm the Merengues’ coronation today itself.

The win also serves as good preparation for Real Madrid for their upcoming UEFA Champions League semi-final second leg against Bayern Munich.

Modric makes history

On an afternoon when Real Madrid bagged home a victory with relative ease, Luka Modric made history.

The Croatian international has seen his game-time increase in recent weeks after having been reduced to a marginal role in the first half of the campaign.

Once again in the starting XI today against Cadiz, the veteran midfield icon broke a special record at the Bernabeu.

Indeed, by featuring for Real Madrid against Cadiz today, Modric became the oldest player ever to represent Los Blancos in La Liga, surpassing Ferenc Puskas.

Only earlier this week, Modric had gone past the legendary Puskas to become the oldest footballer for the Merengues in the European Cup/Champions League.

Now, he has added the record for La Liga as well, by featuring against Cadiz at the age of 38 years and 238 days, going past Puskas’ previous record of 38 years and 233 days.

Puskas’ record was intact for almost 60 years, with him setting it in a league game against Sevilla back on November 21, 1965.

Now, Modric has made it his own, going past the legend and adding more and more accolades to his legacy at Real Madrid.
