The injuries to David Alaba and Eder Militao have exposed the lack of depth in the centre-back department at Real Madrid.

Carlo Ancelotti is currently left with only Antonio Rudiger and Nacho Fernandez as his frontline central defenders, with Aurelien Tchouameni having had to fill up in the position when needed.

As such, rumours about a possible move for a new defender in January started doing the rounds, but Ancelotti was quick to shut those down.

Even then, Real Madrid continue to be linked with talented, young centre-halves who can make a difference right now and in the long run.

Real Madrid interested in Scalvini

One such player happens to be Atalanta’s Giorgio Scalvini. The young 20-year-old centre-back has already become a mainstay for the Serie A outfit and has even tasted international football with Italy.

Regarded very highly, Scalvini has attracted the attention of a plethora of top clubs across Europe, including Real Madrid.

As was reported not long ago, the Italian was one among the four centre-backs Los Blancos were looking at heading into the winter. And even though the club might not sign anyone right away, but it does not mean their interest in Scalvini has waned.

Scalvini to cost €60 million

However, as per reports in Italy, as relayed by AS, having gotten wind of the interest that Scalvini is generating, Atalanta have slapped a €60 million starting price on him.

The 20-year-old’s contract with the Serie A side continues until 2028, giving them an upper hand in any potential negotiations with his suitors.

The report also states that apart from Real Madrid, Premier League heavyweights Manchester United have also taken an interest in the young Italian.

Having already raided Atalanta for Rasmus Hojlund in the summer, it appears that the Red Devils are also keen on Scalvini.

What now remains to be seen is if any of these clubs decide to follow up on their interest and make a formal approach for the young defender either this month or in the summer.
