Julian Nagelsmann’s sacking by Bayern Munich came as a shock to the entire footballing fraternity. The manager had seemingly not done much wrong in the season with his side well-placed in the quarterfinal of the UEFA Champions League. Further, they were just a point off the summit of the Bundesliga standings.
Yet, the German was shown the door with no respite. It later came to light that one of the motives behind such a move was to avoid losing prime target Thomas Tuchel to Real Madrid in June.
Ironically, Nagelsmann is a coach Los Blancos have followed for a long time. Bayern’s decision to release him has reopened the possibility of the former Bayern manager joining the Spanish champions.
According to reports from BILD, the 35-year-old tactician does not want to take over a new job in England immediately despite the serious interest.
Tottenham Hotspur are the main candidates looking at him as they hunt for a successor to Antonio Conte.
Nagelsmann’s decision to wait until the summer could be a signal of his desire to manage Real Madrid as the next phase of his career. After all, the train leading to Real Madrid does not come by often.
The young manager oversaw 84 games on the sidelines for Bayern Munich during his 21-month stay at the club. In that duration, Bayern Munich won 60 games and lost on ten occasions with an average of 2.3 points per game.
Nevertheless, the German is not the only option on Real Madrid’s radar. Mauricio Pochettino and Raul Gonzalez are amongst the other names linked with the Merengues for the summer.
In recent days, Zinedine Zidane’s name has been growing in prominence. Moreover, one must not forget that Ancelotti’s continuity is far from ruled out.
