Real Madrid’s struggle against Europe’s elite continued last night as the men in white not only fell short against PSG in the semifinal of the FIFA Club World Cup but also ended up conceding four goals.
The frustrating result came as the first alarm to Xabi Alonso over the issues that are yet to be fixed at the club for they were defensively horrendous and lacklustre in the final third.
One surprising development on the night, however, was the situation of Rodrygo Goes whom the manager preferred to keep on the bench despite the scoreline. In fact, he even defended his decision after the game, saying,
“It was just a tactical choice. We needed something different today. This match wasn’t about planning the future,” he said.
As related by MARCA in a recent report, Real Madrid have made it clear to Rodrygo the reality of his situation and his place in the manager’s plans. A move away from the club is destined and may well unfold in the coming weeks.

While Rodrygo did start Real Madrid’s first game under Alonso, he was soon relegated to a bench presence and played just 13 minutes in the team’s complete knockout phase of the competition.
With the manager leaning towards a two-man forward line, and Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Jr and even Gonzalo Garcia ahead of him on the pecking order, Rodrygo is thus unlikely to enjoy any prominence in Spanish capital.
The player has attracted admirers from the Premier League with Arsenal said to be interested alongside Chelsea who have also explored the option.
Real Madrid too are open to selling him and talks may well thus commence in the coming weeks. Needless to say, Los Blancos will look to earn a significant profit on the transaction.
