Real Madrid are reportedly keeping close tabs on Celta Vigo’s young midfielder Gabri Veiga ahead of a potential move.

An academy graduate of Cetla, Veiga has burst onto the scene this season, bagging eight goals and three assists in La Liga.

Having scored against Atletico Madrid, Sevilla and Real Betis, the Spanish sensation has caught the attention of Los Blancos, who are keen to secure his services.

According to Cadena SER, Madrid have contacted the 20-year-old’s representatives to register their interest and thwart any other potential suitors.

Veiga holds a release clause worth around €40 million, but Madrid want to lower it by including a player in the deal. They are reportedly ready to pay €25m and use Castilla’s Rafa Marin as a makeweight.

The report also adds that Veiga’s interest will not affect the pursuit of Jude Bellingham, who remains Madrid’s primary target for the summer.

Los Merengues are in pole position to land the Borussia Dortmund midfielder and are planning to offer around €140m for his transfer.

Madrid have not shown a great deal of interest in the homegrown talents in recent years, but that could change with Veiga.

However, they fear that Veiga’s valuation will rise if he is called up by Spanish national team coach Luis de la Fuente for the upcoming international break.

The Celta prodigy is in contention for his maiden senior team call-up on the back of his breakout season.

Veiga can operate as a central midfielder and No 10. Besides his scoring prowess, the Spanish youngster is also an excellent dribbler.
