Real Madrid have won the race to sign highly-regarded Japanese prospect Takefusa Kubo from FC Tokyo.
Barcelona had also been interested in the 18-year-old and tried to sign him in 2014 but had their efforts curtailed by a FIFA ban.
On Friday, Los Blancos announced that he has signed for the club and will represent their Castilla side next season after putting pen to paper on a five-year deal.
According to a report in MARCA, Real will pay €2m for Kubo’s services and he is set to receive a salary of €1m per season.
Kubo is part of the Japan squad for the Copa América and is regarded as one of Asia’s most exciting talents.
The attacking midfielder has enjoyed an impressive year so far with FC Tokyo, where he caught Real’s attention.
He has played a total of 16 games in all competitions and scored five goals.
