Toni Kroos has shared a light-hearted story from his early days at Real Madrid, revealing how a childhood photo helped him win over the club’s fans by pure coincidence.

Kroos, who retired after a legendary career last year, is now one of Real Madrid’s greatest midfielders. But during his youth, he was not a fan of Los Blancos.

In fact, during a recent speech, the German admitted that his love for Real Madrid developed later in life, not from childhood.

A photo that made Real Madrid fans believe

Kroos recalled the moment from 2014 when he joined Real Madrid from Bayern Munich.

During that summer, a photo of him as a child surfaced online, where he was seen wearing a Real Madrid away kit from the 2001-2002 season, featuring Luis Figo’s name on the back.

The image quickly went viral, and fans assumed Kroos had been a lifelong Madrid supporter.

But Kroos cleared the air during his recent speech. “I was wearing a Figo Real Madrid shirt. I didn’t know back then how much that would help me.

“I wasn’t a Real Madrid fan, but the photo came out on social media, and of course, all the fans started saying, ‘Kroos has been a Real Madrid fan since he was seven.’ It wasn’t true, but the photo helped me,” he said with a smile.

In his youth, Kroos actually supported Werder Bremen, the team that was dominant in German football during his childhood.

Despite not growing up as a Madridista, Kroos became one of the club’s biggest legends.

During his time in Madrid, he played 465 matches, winning an incredible collection of trophies, including five Champions League titles, four La Liga titles, one Copa del Rey, four Spanish Super Cups, three UEFA Super Cups, and five Club World Cups.
