UEFA’s draw for the Champions League’s new League phase format took place on Thursday evening as Spain’s European participants learned their upcoming opponents.
Real Madrid were the second Spanish team to learn their fate, as they will take on eight European sides in the League phase of UEFA’s biggest club competition.
Last year’s champions will face home ties at the Santiago Bernabéu against Borussia Dortmund, AC Milan, RB Salzburg and Stuttgart.
Meanwhile, Carlo Ancelotti’s men will face trips to England, Italy and France to face Liverpool, Europa League champions Atalanta, Lille and Brest away from home.
Every side in the competition will face two extra fixtures as part of the revamped League phase, with Real Madrid facing an already packed schedule.
Ancelotti will likely need to utilise every area of his squad across these European fixtures, as he looks to manage his team and prevent injuries and fatigue.
