Rumours of Real Madrid’s interest in Bayer Leverkusen’s midfield sensation Florian Wirtz have been quite commonplace over the past few months.

However, there seem to be significant updates in the saga courtesy of transfer-expert Fabrizio Romano, who provides some new information about the young German in his latest YouTube video.

Amid interest from eternal rivals Barcelona and Premier League giants Manchester City, Romano reports that certain personnel within the Real Madrid camp are also eyeing Wirtz.

It does not come as a surprise as Los Blancos seem to be on a trail to assemble a squad of very young players who are seemingly already established superstars.

A waiting game for Wirtz

However, signing the 20-year-old is not going to be a very straightforward affair at the minute.

The rumour mill has been churning out reports that Wirtz could leave in January, but Romano dismisses them saying that there is no chance of that happening.

Furthermore, it is also unlikely that the player moves in the summer of 2024 as his unwavering focus remains on the EUROs in Germany without being subject to any transfer speculation.

It was previously reported that Leverkusen will look to charge an astronomical fee of around 120 million euros for the 20-year-old, and that he would not leave before 2025.

While money may not be much of an issue for the Merengues, it depends on whether they are willing to wait for that long to complete another marquee signing in midfield.

Madrid have also had their eyes on Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala, and if he is available earlier, they may just choose to head in that direction.
