Last weekâs first leg was an instant classic.
But can tonightâs Champions League second leg between Real Madrid and Manchester City live up to that high level? Letâs find out
Scorers: Rodrygo 90Ⲡ90+1â˛, Benzema (PEN) 94â˛; Mahrez 73â˛
A Rodrygo double in injury time and a Karim Benzema penalty in extra time saw Real Madrid beat Manchester City to qualify for the Champions League final against Liverpool later this month.
A deafening home crowd roared Carlo Ancelottiâs side on to the pitch here but it was Manchester City who held the slight advantage before kick off with a 4-3 lead from the first leg.
And it was Karim Benzema who had the best chance early on as he found himself free inside the area but headed over the bar from 12 yards out.
This game turned nasty after just eight minutes as Aymeric Laporte and Luka ModriÄ clashed right in front of the referee with the City defender going down clutching his face â the man in the middle though, opted to give them just a yellow card each.
Vinicius Jnr was the next off the rank to miss the target for Los Blancos as his volley on the run blazed over Edersonâs bar on 20 minutes.
But immediately up the other end it was Thibaut Courtois who was called into action as Bernardo Silvaâs effort was tipped around the post.
With just five minutes of the half to go the match really burst into life.
Firstly Phil Foden had an effort from outside the area saved well by Courtois and then straight up the other end Kyle Walker made a last ditch challenge to stop Vinicius Jnr from racing through on goal.
Into the second half and Vinicius Jnr missed what was easily the best chance of the game so far as he ghosted in at the far post but fired wide.
There was some real sloppiness from both sides as misplaced passes and bad touches took over the game with an hour gone.
Walker is probably the man of the match at this point but he was forced off on 71 minutes after colliding with Vinicius Jnr.
But just moments later it was City who took the lead as Riyad Mahrez hit a first time effort past Courtois to give the Premier League side a lead.
Real Madrid then didnât have an answer as they pushed for an equaliser but failed to really trouble Ederson in the City goal.
It was almost 2-0 for the visitors late on as Jack Grealish waltzed into the opposition defence and fired past the goalkeeper but had his effort cleared off the line by Nacho.
With the clock striking 90 minutes though, Real Madrid pulled one back. Rodrygo ghosted into the area and tapped in past Ederson for an equaliser.
And amazingly just moments later the Brazilian youngster scored a second as his header beat the goalkeeper to send the home fans into raptures.
We went into extra time and within three minutes Karim Benzema had won a penalty as Ruben Dias went flying into an unnecessary challenge in the area.
Benzema stepped up and placed his penalty into the bottom right-hand corner.
City pushed to try and get that equaliser and almost got it at the end of the first period as Fernandinhoâs outstretched leg just couldnât push the ball into the net after Courtois saved from Fodenâs header.
And that was the final chance of a brilliant game as Real Madrid booked their tickets to Paris for the final against Liverpool.
