The FIFA World Cup is not only the most prestigious tournament in the world but also the biggest stage in the game for players to make their mark and announce their arrival. Understandably, clubs across the globe maintain tabs on the top performers at the event as a part of their scouting regime.

Real Madrid are looking for a massive overhaul next summer, especially given that they want to clear the deadwood. The signing of Jude Bellingham could get complicated due to the sheer number of interested parties, and Los Blancos are still in the process of identifying names to add to the arrival list.

According to reports from SPORT, Florentino Perez is interested in bringing the young Argentine star Enzo Fernandez to Santiago Bernabeu from Benfica.

The youngster has become a household name in less than 48 hours after his world-class goal for Argentina against Mexico on Saturday. From a very tight angle, he curled the ball past Guillermo Ochoa from a distance to double his team’s lead and secure all three points during the nervy closing minutes.

His arrival would add significant depth to Real Madrid’s midfield which already boasts of quality in Aurelien Tchouameni, Federico Valverde, Eduardo Camavinga and possibly Jude Bellingham.

In 13 league games so far for Benfica this season, Fernandez has scored one goal and provided three assists. He averages two key passes per ninety minutes and also over seven defensive actions per game.

The midfielder is under contract with the Portuguese side until the summer of 2027.

A combination of his long-term deal and the World Cup will contribute to a rapid rise in his market value in the coming weeks, and Real Madrid must be prepared to shell out a premium if they are to win his services.

Further, Barcelona are also interested in bringing the Argentine superstar, which only fuel both clubs’ pursuit.
