Real Madrid are reportedly interested in Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez.

The Red Devils have recently switched to a back three as part of new manager Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-3 formation.

After an injury-riddled campaign last season, Martinez has been a regular feature of the United backline.

He has played 19 games in all competitions this season and played in three of Amorim’s five matches in charge, missing the Arsenal game due to suspension.

However, there are reports from TBR Football that Martinez is gathering interest from other clubs.

“TBR Football understands that Real Madrid are paying close attention to Lisandro Martinez’s situation at Manchester United.”

“Madrid are in the market for a new central defender in 2025 and have already been casting their eyes towards the Premier League”, with Arsenal’s William Saliba and Tottenham’s Cristian Romero both of interest to the Spanish champions.

Madrid are reportedly “keeping tabs” on the 26 year old’s progress and have him on a shortlist of options to move for in the summer window in 2025.

The Argentine’s current deal runs until 2027, but there is an option to extend for another year, and the website claims there is no suggestion that United are looking to sell.

Whilst not hitting the heights of his first season in England, Martinez has still shown his class in a red shirt, as Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola described him as “one of the top five centre backs in the world” after the FA Cup final in May.

United do hold an interest in signing further centre backs, with Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite still reportedly a target for the Red Devils.

Nonetheless, with the Red Devils switching to a back three, it is debatable whether the club would entertain any offers for Martinez, especially in the context that Jonny Evans and most likely one of Victor Lindelof or Harry Maguire will also be leaving the club in the not so distant future.
