Bayer Leverkusen’s 20-year-old midfielder Florian Wirtz has become a subject of interest for top football clubs, with Real Madrid prominently in the mix reports journalist Florian Plettenberg.
Los Blancos are one among a host of top teams in the mix, with Liverpool, Manchester City, and Manchester United are also interested.
Bayern Munich also remain in the mix and might have the best chance of signing him, provided they have the financial wherewithal to meet his steep valuation of €120 million.
Wirtz’s future has been thrown into question following his blistering performance in the Bundesliga under Xabi Alonso. Now, the 20-year-old does have a contract with the Bundesliga team until 2027, but Leverkusen know he will leave much earlier.
As such, the utmost hope is that the player will extend his stay for at least one more season. However, the club’s leadership is still anticipating his departure, with strong convictions that it will materialize no later than the summer of 2025.
“In the end, everyone has to go their own way and at some point, I have to decide where I would like to play best,” the midfielder had earlier said about his future, as quoted by Sky Germany.

It is to be noted that the competition for Wirtz’s signature is fierce, featuring heavyweight contenders such as Real Madrid, Liverpool, and Manchester United.
Meanwhile, Bayern Munich have emerged as the front-runners, provided they can meet the financial demands of securing the young talent.
At present, a move following the European Championships after the end of the season for Wirtz is largely expected, but he is determined not to rush the process and has yet to commit to any particular team.
This is because the Leverkusen player prioritizes personal development and aims to grow as a player, intending to make a significant impact with them, at least until the summer.
At the same time, though, Bayern need to be wary of a certain Jamal Musiala, although they are of the idea that both Wirtz and Musiala can be incorporated within the team.
However, if the Bayern youngster, who is also said to be on Madrid’s agenda, leaves in 2025, Wirtz will join the defending German champions.
