Elimination from the UEFA Champions League is not something that traditionally goes down well at the Valdebebas, especially given Real Madrid’s track record in the competition.

It is indeed not possible for Los Blancos to go on and win the trophy every year, but it is more the fashion in which they crashed out which has set the alarm bells ringing in the Spanish capital.

A 5-1 aggregate scoreline against Arsenal, after all, is not anything close to what Real Madrid are capable of and it is clear that a lot must change in terms of both the management and the squad.

Keen analysis begins

As relayed in a recent report by MARCA, Real Madrid have intensified their analysis of players they have sent out on loan or have sold with a purchase clause.

After all, the board see it to be a good way of bringing back vital players and providing squad depth for a budget price.

Moreover, such players are usually academy graduates who have a deep understanding of the club’s ideas.

Of the many players on the aforementioned list, the likes of Nico Paz, Alex Jimenez and Mario Gila standout as players Real Madrid see potential in and could look to lure back home.

Real Madrid do not have a direct purchase clause on Gila but can match any offer that Lazio receives if they place him on the market and sign him back. Given the 24-year-old’s prominence this season, however, that looks unlikely.

Alex Jimenez, meanwhile, has featured relatively less for AC Milan but has still proven to be a reliable player. Real Madrid have a buyback clause on him and can look to activate it to reinforce the right side of the defence.

Nico Paz, however, continues to be the player who has impressed the Real Madrid administration the most with his consistency and quality this season and the club have been tracking him for a while now.

Only time will tell if they or any other players like Rafa Marin are re-signed in the summer, but for now Real Madrid have intensified their tracking and analysis.
