As we enter the final phase of the campaign, Real Madrid do not appear to have much faith in Carlo Ancelotti, following a turbulent season that has seen them taste defeat to Barcelona three times.
The reigning Spanish champions have also fallen behind in the race for the league title and are currently trailing Barcelona 1-0 in the Copa Del Rey semifinal.
These poor results have led to intense speculations over the future of Ancelotti, one that is quite synonymous with the Italian’s first spell at the club. As such, Real Madrid have started their search for a replacement.
The likes of Julian Nagelsmann, Marcelo Gallardo and Xabi Alonso are some of the names that have been linked with Real Madrid lately. Even youth team coach Raul Gonzalez is a viable option, even though he is trailing other candidates on the list.
According to TyC Sports, Real Madrid are not entirely sure about their managerial choice for the coming summer. Some people at the club want Raul to be manager, as he is well aware of the Real Madrid ecosystem.
But in light of his lack of experience in managing at top club, some understandably doubt his abilities. One of them could be club president Florentino Perez, who is favouring the appointment of Mauricio Pochettino.
The Argentine tactician has remained a free agent since he departed from Paris Saint-Germain. He has turned down multiple offers from top clubs, presumably in his bid to join Real Madrid. Some even consider him as the frontrunner in the race to replace Ancelotti this summer.
But with a chunk of the season still left to be played, only time will tell what the future holds for Real Madrid’s managerial position next season. It is a developing situation that may radically change at any given point of the season.
