Real Madrid are determined to strengthen their defence ahead of the 2025 summer transfer window, with a clear focus on securing a world-class centre-back.
Florentino Perez, the club’s president, has already set his sights on three key defenders as potential reinforcements, with reports from Fichajes affirming that Castello Lukeba, Micky Van de Ven, and Josko Gvardiol have made it to the list.
Of the three candidates, Lukeba, at just 22 years old is a long-term target for Los Blancos. The French centre-back currently plays for RB Leipzig and has a contract with the German club until 2029.
He has established himself as a key figure in Leipzig’s defence, making 15 appearances this season and impressing with his solid performances. His youth, combined with his ability to perform at a high level, makes him an attractive option for Real Madrid.
Another promising prospect is Van de Ven, who is 23 years old. The Dutch defender has been a standout performer for Tottenham Hotspur this season and just like Lukeba, he has a contract that runs until 2029.

His consistency in the Premier League has caught the attention of many top clubs, including Real Madrid.
The final name on the list is Gvardiol, a 22-year-old Croatian playing for Manchester City. Gvardiol has been excellent this season, having already made 28 appearances for City.
He is widely regarded as one of the most promising young defenders in the world. His versatility in the defensive role makes him particularly appealing to Real Madrid, who are keen to add a player capable of adapting to various tactical setups.
While all three players bring undeniable quality, the main obstacle for Real Madrid is the high price tag attached to them.
Their impressive performances and youth have significantly increased their market value, making them expensive options. Nevertheless, Perez is prepared to make a significant investment to secure the future of the club’s defence.
