Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga‘s yelp of pain during training just 24 hours before they kicked off their season in the European Supercup was a sure sign he was likely to miss a chunk of time. While he has avoided the dreaded anterior cruciate ligament injury, he will be out for some time.

As per Diario AS, Camavinga has been ruled out for the next six to seven weeks with an internal knee ligament sprain. The French midfielder twisted his knee in training, and following tests in Warsaw, have concluded that he will be out until October in all likelihood. In addition to the Atalanta game this evening, he is set to miss another eight fixtures. If his recovery is quick, he might yet make the Madrid derby on the 29th of September at the Metropolitano, which will be undoubtedly the most sore miss.

The Champions League draw is also yet to take place, so Camavinga will likely miss at least one European match too, while an away trip to Real Sociedad also looks tricky. Los Blancos travel to Las Palmas and RCD Mallorca, while they will welcome Real Valladolid, Real Betis, Espanyol and Alaves to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Carlo Ancelotti is not short of options in midfield, with Luka Modric, Aurelien Tchouameni, Dani Ceballos, Jude Bellingham and Fede Valverde plenty strong enough to handle his absence, but it does leave the squad looking that little bit thinner, for the opening stages of the season. Already Tchouameni is a candidate to play in defence in case of injuries too.
