Real Madrid were held to a goalless draw at home to Osasuna at the Santiago Bernabéu on Wednesday night.

Before the game, Karim Benzema collected his player of the month award for September but the Frenchman was unable to break the deadlock for Los Blancos.

Madrid had a great chance late on when Marcelo chipped it over Sergio Herrera in goal but it flew wide. Before that, Vinicius curled an effort past the Osasuna post after cutting inside but he couldn’t keep the effort on target.

It was Osasuna’s first point against Madrid at the Bernabéu since 2005. The away side will be delighted with their point ahead of a difficult run of games against Sevilla, Real Sociedad and Atlético Madrid.

The team from Pamplona are now just two points off the top of the table and have the best away record in Spain’s top flight.

Real Madrid go joint top of La Liga with the point.
