Real Madrid have been given a huge boost in their pursuit of Alphonso Davies as it has been revealed that Bayern Munich will have to pay an exorbitant salary if they wish to keep the full-back and repel Madrid’s interest, according to AS via Bild.
Should the Bavarian side not meet the Candian’s salary demands (thought to be around €15m), which would make him the highest-paid player in the squad, the 23-year-old will not renew his contract that expires in 2025.
Bayern previously tried to extend Davies’ deal at the start of the season when the club offered him a deal worth €12m a year, however, contract talks ultimately failed after the departure of the then-sporting director, Hasan Salihamidzic. The Bosnian’s replacement, Christoph Freund, is now tasked with finding an agreement with Davies, although one thing has changed: the Canadian is asking for more money.
Bayern will do all they can to retain the left-back, who is undoubtedly one of the best in the world for his position, but Los Blancos will be confident that they will be able to convince the player and his agent, Nedal Huoseh. It should be remembered that his agent has previously spoken of his admiration of the Spanish side in an interview with Fabrizio Romano, where he said, “I don’t want to disregard Bayern, but Real Madrid and their 14 Champions Leagues… I have always been a fan of that team, and to hear that they are interested in a player that you represent makes you proud.”
Madrid already know that Davies would be open to signing for them, but the decision will ultimately lie with the player.
