Sixty-nine days on from their last competitive game, Real Madrid are back in LaLiga action tonight against the same team they faced in the final clash of last season: Athletic Club. Eager to get started in a campaign that promises a whole host of exciting challenges, Ancelotti's team head to San Mamés (9:30pm CEST) for the first of 38 games in the fight for the title.
It's set to be the first of three games away from the Santiago Bernabéu for Real Madrid in the opening month of the competition. Following tonight's fixture, they will head to the Power Horse Stadium to take on Almería (Saturday 19, 7:30pm), before travelling to Vigo six days later to face Celta at Balaídos (Friday 25, 9:30pm). “We're going to fight and compete all season long," underlined Ancelotti in the pre-match press conference. The madridista coach has named four of this season's new recruits in his squad: Bellingham, who will enjoy his first competitive minutes for Real Madrid, alongside Fran García, Joselu and Brahim.
Athletic With the exception of Iñigo Martínez, the Basque side start with much the same group that finished eighth in LaLiga last season and boast quality players like the Williams brothers, Sancet and the recent addition, Ruiz de Galarreta. Athletic Club played six games in pre-season, recording 1 win, 3 draws and 2 defeats.
