Up until now, Marco Asensio has been on the periphery of things for Real Madrid.

While the Spanish international has been keen to extend his current contract, which expires next summer, a dispute over wages has meant the European champions have deemed him surplus to requirements.

A new update has now suggested that Carlo Ancelotti’s men refuse to change their stance about the player.

As per the latest information provided by MARCA (h/t Infinite Madrid), Real Madrid are not thinking about renewing Marco Asensio’s contract.

It has been stated that the club are willing to let him leave as a free agent at the end of the season.

The 26-year old has fallen down to the bottom of Los Blancos’ options out wide, behind the likes of Eden Hazard, Rodrygo and Vinicius Jr.

So far this term, the former Mallorca winger has played a mere 27 minutes in La Liga and 36 minutes in the Champions League, which points to how Ancelotti is content with utilizing other alternatives at his disposal.

Ultimately, it’s hard to make a case for who Asensio replaces in Real Madrid’s starting XI.

As things stand, Vinicius Jr. is competing with Kylian Mbappe for the title of the outright best winger in world football.

Rodrygo’s ability to provide cover across the frontline makes him an incredibly useful forward option to have.

While Eden Hazard is still being tested out on the pitch to see what he can offer after an injury-ridden spell in the Spanish capital.

As a result, Los Merengues do not feel the need to either play or hand the once-wonderkid a brand-new contract.

The club’s aim will be to move Marco Asensio on, as their sights will be set on bringing in a new wideman.
