Despite weeks of speculation surrounding his future, Rodrygo will remain at Real Madrid this summer.
According to AS, the Brazilian has convinced head coach Xabi Alonso after his performance against Real Oviedo and is now determined to stay and compete for his place in the squad.
For much of the summer, Rodrygo’s name was linked with a possible exit. Real Madrid had hoped to secure around €90 million for his transfer, while the player himself would only have considered leaving for a club that could match his salary expectations.
But as the transfer window nears its end, no deal has materialised, and both parties have accepted that he will continue at the Santiago Bernabéu.
What turned the situation in Rodrygo’s favour was his display against Oviedo.
Alonso gave him the chance to return to his preferred left-wing role, a position that usually belongs to Vinicius Jr.
The coach left Vinicius on the bench, a decision that raised eyebrows, but it quickly paid off.
Rodrygo will not leave Real Madrid.
Rodrygo looked sharp, direct, and hungry. He attacked with intent, broke through Oviedo’s defensive lines, and stood out as Madrid’s most dangerous forward on the night.
Unlike his struggles on the right flank, his natural instincts on the left made him far more effective.
The decision worked, and Alonso now views Rodrygo not only as a reliable option but also as a player who can push Vinicius to raise his game.
The message from Alonso is that although Rodrygo is staying, he must compete.
The coach sees him as a useful tool to keep Vinicius motivated while also giving Madrid extra depth in attack.
If he continues to perform like he did in Oviedo, he could change the narrative around him completely.
Once seen as a potential sale, he is now set to play a key role in Madrid’s season, proving that he still has plenty to offer the team.
