We all love the clips of footballers refusing to sign the shirts of their rival clubs, with former Celtic forward Craig Bellamy’s famous disgust at a Rangers shirt being presented before him coming to mind.

As well as the more recent clips of Paul Pogba and Raheem Sterling refusing to sign Manchester United and Manchester City shirts respectively following their recent moves to new clubs.

However, very rarely do we see the athletes of a different sport refusing to sign the football shirts that fans have at hand for them to sign!

In a clip circulating on Twitter, F1 driver Carlos Sainz is hilariously seen refusing to sign a Barcelona shirt presented to him by a fan, before the driver zooms off looking unimpressed.

As the Ferrari driver was signing and greeting other fans with great patience and warmth, the Spaniard’s tone suddenly changed when he saw the famous blue and red stripes of the Barcelona jersey.

Sainz took one look at the shirt before saying: “No, I’m not signing this.”

He then chose to drive off pretty quickly, putting an end to the impromptu fan meet and greet.

While some on social media have interpreted Sainz’s behaviour as unwarranted, the majority of online reaction and we as sports fans cannot help but respect the loyalty on show by Sainz, as a professional sportsman.

The Madrid-born racer has openly showed his love for Real Madrid over the years, being spotted in the famous Los Blancos jersey and having even appeared on the club’s social media channels before.

Sainz’s father, also Carlos, is even an honorary member of Real Madrid due to his own legendary motorsport career.

Comments on Twitter in reaction to Sainz’s loyalty included, “Hala Madrid!” and described the racer as a “true Madridista.”
