Real Madrid will face Liverpool in the Champions League final on May 28.
Fabinho, one of the world’s best centre midfielders, will almost certainly start for Liverpool, barring injury.
But did you know that the Brazilian actually used to play for Real Madrid?
We’re not lying. Fabinho had a brief spell at Real Madrid in 2013.

GK: Alphonse Areola
Areola spent the 2019/20 season on loan at Real Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain. He played just nine times for Los Blancos.
RB: Filipe Luis
Luis spent eight seasons at Atletico Madrid across two spells.
Before joining Atleti, Luis spent a season at their fierce rivals, Real Madrid.
He signed for Real Madrid on loan in 2005 and played in 37 league games for their B team. His move was not made permanent and he returned to Rentistas.
CB: Mario Hermoso
Hermoso has become a key cog of Diego Simeone’s Atletico side.
He actually came through the youth system at their fierce rivals, Real. He joined Los Blancos in 2005 at the age of 10. He departed in 2017 after failing to appear for the first team.
CB: Raul Albiol
Albiol played at Real between 2009-2013. He is excelling at Villarreal at the age of 36.
LB: Marcos Alonso
Alonso joined Real’s youth system in his youth and spent 11 years at the club.
He made just one appearance for the first team before departing.
CM: Fabinho
Fabinho spent the 2012/13 season on loan at the Spanish giants. He spent the majority of the season with their B team, although he did manage to make one La Liga appearance.
LM: Juan Mata
Mata never played for Real’s first team. He departed for Valencia after impressing in his one season at Real Madrid Castilla.
Buendia moved from Argentina to Real Madrid in 2009. He left the club for Getafe a year later.
ST: Rodrigo
Rodrigo played for Real from 2009-2010. He never played for the first team.
ST: Javier Hernandez
‘Chicharito’ spent the 2014/15 season with the 13-time European Cup winners, scoring nine times in 33 games.
