Nico Williams was one of the most exciting players selected for Spain during the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Although the forward’s campaign came to an early end as La Roja were knocked out by Morocco in the Round of 16, his performances at the club level have not gotten unnoticed.

According to a report from Diario SPORT, Real Madrid are among the clubs interested in the services of Williams. The reigning Spanish champions may even consider a move for the Athletic Club winger in the upcoming January transfer window.

Real Madrid’s interest in Williams is hardly surprising as the club have lacked depth in the attacking unit. Karim Benzema has had multiple injury issues in the new season whereas Eden Hazard has failed to provide the goods, often struggling with form and injuries.

While Rodrygo and Vinicius Junior have done well, Real Madrid require a proper alternative in the attacking unit. That is where Nico Williams comes into the fray.

At the age of just 20, the winger has built a reputation for his speed and dribbling qualities in the final third. His ability to drift past defenders has made him a daunting challenge for any defender in La Liga, with the player notably racking up 12 goal involvements for Athletic Club.

Nico’s style of play has left Real Madrid impressed and it appears the Whites could soon make an attempt to sign the Spanish whizkid, who has won six caps for the national team so far.

However, signing Nico Williams will be far from a straightforward task for Real Madrid. The report suggests Athletic Club have no intention to part ways with their star player in the upcoming January transfer window and are holding out for the value of his release clause which stands at around €50 million.

Real Madrid still have the capacity to make a move for the Spanish international in January, but amid speculations over a potential capture of Endrick, it remains to be seen whether Los Blancos splash the cash in the coming window.
