In a recent report, Fichajes stated that Real Madrid are eyeing a move for Paris Saint-Germain forward Mauro Icardi this summer. It has been mentioned that Los Blancos have identified the Argentine talent as a target for this ongoing transfer window.

Icardi’s Frustrations In French Football Last Season

The 29-year-old had an underwhelming season in Paris as he struggled to perform at a high level for PSG over the past ten months. Icardi scored five times in 30 matches for the French giants in the previous campaign across various competitions.

The Argentina international had to settle for a spot on the bench on most occasions which explains why he could only average 1.2 shots and 0.4 key passes per 90 minutes in Ligue 1. However, he was accurate with his link-up play in the final third, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 80.5% in the French top tier (stats via whoscored).

Should Real Madrid Boss Carlo Ancelotti Move In For Icardi This Summer?

Icardi remains a good finisher in the attacking end of the field when he is playing regularly and with confidence on the pitch. The Argentine talent can even make some dangerous runs with the ball in the opponent’s half.

However, he has struggled to make himself a prominent member of PSG’s first XI as he has often found himself behind Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar Jr. in the club’s pecking order. Thus, a move to Real Madrid would be a decent option for the player in this off-season.

Icardi is good enough to serve as a good back-up to Karim Benzema at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium next season. The South American marksman could even help Los Blancos challenge for even more trophies over the next few years.

With all things considered, Carlo Ancelotti should think about moving in for Icardi during this summer transfer period as he will definitely enhance the quality of his match-day squad ahead of the new campaign. At 29, he could still prove to be a decent short-term signing for Los Blancos to consider this summer.
