In a recent report, Fichajes mentioned that Real Madrid are eyeing a move for Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka. It is understood that Los Blancos president Florentino Perez has identified the German playmaker as an ideal option to strengthen Carlo Ancelotti’s midfield next summer.

Goretzka’s Decent Run Of Form In German Football

Goretzka had an impressive campaign with the Bavarian giants last season when he produced a run of influential displays at the heart of their midfield. The Bochum-born midfield ace participated in 32 matches for the German outfit in the previous campaign, registering eight goals and eight assists across all fronts.

The 26-year-old gave a good account of himself by averaging 1.5 tackles, 1.8 interceptions, 1.8 shots, 0.8 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga. He was a tidy distributor of the ball after making 87.7% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).

Goretzka recently penned a new contract with the Munich outfit until the summer of 2026, so it is unlikely that Bayern would want to sell him unless Los Blancos are willing to make a mammoth offer to secure his services.

What Will Goretzka Add To Carlo Ancelotti’s Side?

Goretzka is a tough-tackling midfielder who can make some important interceptions for his team at the centre of the park. He is a decent passer of the ball and can engineer a few clear-cut chances for his teammates to score. The German midfielder can also chip in by netting his fair share of goals from midfield.

The ex-Schalke talent ticks all the right boxes in terms of what is required to be a success story at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. However, his recent contract extension at the Allianz Arena will make it difficult for Los Blancos to convince Bayern Munich to part ways with their prized asset next summer.

However, if Florentino Perez can somehow find a way to get a deal done for Goretzka, we can expect him to add a lot of quality to Ancelotti’s midfield department in the coming seasons. He will be an automatic starter at the Bernabeu and could serve as a decent replacement for Luka Modric, who is enjoying the twilight years of his playing career. At 26, Goretzka still has plenty of years left in him, so he would be a wise addition to Madrid’s first team next summer.
