Real Madrid are expected to listen to offers for Marco Asensio this summer and will also attempt to offload Dani Ceballos for a cut price fee, with both players out of contract next year.

Having once been billed as a star of the future, Asensio started only 19 La Liga games in 2021/22 and just twice in the Champions League. Ceballos, meanwhile, spent much of the season injured and only returned to a fringe role once fit after two years on loan at Arsenal.

Marcelo, Gareth Bale and Isco will officially no longer be Real players in the coming days once their respective contracts expire. That will considerably cut the wage bill, with Antonio Rudiger and Aurelien Tchouameni already coming in so far this summer.

But possible further new arrivals is set to depend on more outgoings. Marca notes that Luka Jovic, Mariano Diaz and Jesus Vallejo are among other potential departures immediately considered transferable. That list could grow to include Borja Mayoral, Reinier and Takefusa Kubo.

It is said that Asensio will have the option to decide his future. A new contract has not yet been offered to the 26-year-old, but if he chooses to stay in the knowledge that he won’t be a regular starter, he will be presented with a new deal that reflects that status.

Otherwise, Asensio is likely to command the biggest fee of any player Real would be willing to sell. But despite rumours of interest from the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and AC Milan, Marca points out that no offers for the Spain international have yet arrived.

As for Ceballos, the €100m arrival of Tchouameni has added even more competition for midfield places. He would be welcome to stay, but only as a fringe squad player and has not yet been offered a new contract beyond his current deal expiring in 2023. Real value him at €10m.
