The FIFA Club World Cup will be the last competition Real Madrid play this season, but given its timing, it may well be considered made season’s first event.

With the competition scheduled to kick off in June, Real Madrid are not expected have Carlo Ancelotti on the bench at the time and will be moving forward with their new project. What is more, is that they expect their new signing Trent Alexander-Arnold to arrive in time too.

There was, however, a doubt over the participation of players who are in the final year of their contract and Jorge Picon (h/t Madrid Xtra) clarified that point in a recent update.

Luka Modric and Lucas Vazquez are the two players at Real Madrid who end their contracts at the club this summer – on 30th June 2025.

As relayed by the Spanish journalist, however, the renewal both players signed last season included a special clause to enable them to participate in the FIFA Club World Cup. Both stars, thus, are expected to participate.

Given Trent Alexander-Arnold’s almost certain arrival, Vazquez is all but set to leave Real Madrid in the coming months and could officially call it time after the event in June. After all, he will have little prominence next season, especially Dani Carvajal will also be back.

Modric, meanwhile, also appears to be on his way out with there being no progress in terms of a renewal.

The possibility cannot be ruled out given the veteran’s level this season, but there is also a feeling that it is time Real Madrid parted with the veteran to make room for the likes of Arda Guler.
