In what could prove to be a crucial result in the context of the title race, Real Madrid dropped a point today after drawing 1-1 with Rayo Vallecano.
It was a hard-fought point for Vallecano, with a first-half equalizer from Raul de Tomas and some solid defensive in the second half ensuring that they maintain distance from the relegation flock.
For Real Madrid, the result meant more than just a lost point. The club were unable to break the shackles of the opposition defence and more importantly, lost Dani Carvajal with a red card.
Dani Carvajal was sent off late in the game after he picked up a second yellow card. He was booked for shrugging off Kike Perez aggressively.
Carvajal’s red card means he will not be available for Real Madrid in their next league game against Sevilla on Sunday.
Carvajal is not the only Real Madrid player to be ruled out against Sevilla with a suspension. The Spaniard is joined by Eduardo Camavinga on the list of suspended players for Los Blancos.

While Carvajal was sent off for two yellow cards in just 20 minutes against Rayo Vallecano, Camavinga was heading into the game with a suspension scare.
The midfielder had picked up four yellow cards in La Liga prior to his affair. As one would guess, the youngster picked up a rather unnecessary yellow card against Rayo around the hour mark for showing his frustration at the referee.
The booking meant Camavinga will now join Carvajal on the sidelines as Real Madrid take on Sevilla next weekend.
Following this result, it is now clear that other Real Madrid stars must step up as Los Blancos look to avoid giving Girona an opportunity to make a late surge in the title race.
