Carlo Ancelotti’s Real are of course currently locked in action, having made the trip to Barcelona for a La Liga meeting with Espanyol.

As things stand at the RCDE Stadium, the two sides remain deadlocked at 0-0, in search of what could prove to be an all-important opener.

And as alluded to above, in their efforts to maintain their advantage atop the Spanish top-flight, the evening’s visitors have already been dealt a heavy blow.

Inside the opening quarter of an hour on Saturday, Antonio Rüdiger went to ground in evident discomfort.

Clutching at what appeared to be his right hamstring, the German was subsequently tended to by the Real Madrid medical staff.

And, from here, the call was quickly made that Rüdiger was in no condition to continue, hauled off for youngster Raúl Asencio.

An update on the wellbeing of the former Chelsea man is expected post-match.
