Real Madrid usually get what they want, and the rumours are that they want Dean Huijsen.

The young Bournemouth central defender has become quite the star in less than a season in the Premier League, looking like the best player of his age in the division. The Cherries are delighted to have unearthed such a gem, but probably also concern about how long he might be sticking around.

TBR Football’s Graeme Bailey says the South Coast club will offer him a new deal with vastly improved terms to keep him at the club, but even that may not be enough if the big boys get involved. Liverpool have long been linked along with Chelsea, and now apparently Madrid are getting in the mix.

They’ve suffered with terrible injuries in central defence, and having loaded their team in attack, they could do with a top class under 21 in defence. The release clause in Huijsen’s current deal is apparently something over £49m, not too much for Los Blancos to consider.

Chelsea can offer a lot to a young players, but Madrid can offer even more. The fact that Huijsen is a Spain youth international – and surely of a fast track to a senior cap -probably only helps their cause, and increases their interest in the Amsterdam born 19 year old.

Liverpool also currently likely present a more tempting setup for anyone looking to win trophies. Chelsea aren’t out of the picture, but they may need to do something special. That could be a bigger wage packet, or promises of game time. But first the Blues need to finish this season strongly and show this project is moving forwards toward major trophies, that is essential.
