Real Madrid have decided to walk away from the pursuit of Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Braut Haaland, claims El Chiringuito’s Josep Pedrerol.
Los Blancos were in the running for the Norwegian striker alongside a handful of European giants.
However, Pedrerol claims Madrid have prioritised the signing of Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe while withdrawing interest in Haaland.
Recent reports stated that Los Blancos have an agreement in place with the French World Cup winner over a free transfer in the summer.
Madrid’s change of stance on Haaland could be welcome news for Manchester City, Manchester United and Barcelona, who are keen on recruiting Dortmund’s goalscoring sensation.
The 21-year-old has racked up 23 goals and six assists in all competitions this season, keeping Dortmund within touching distance of Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich.
Haaland recently revealed that Dortmund were pressuring him to decide on his future soon amid interest from Europe’s top clubs.
His €75 million release clause becomes active this summer, and it will be interesting to see which club can sign him.
Madrid’s arch-rivals Barca have identified Haaland as the next superstar in the post-Lionel Messi era.
President Joan Laporta is looking to make good use of his relationship with the Norwegian’s agent Mino Raiola.
Man City are also on the hunt for the former RB Salzburg star despite sealing a move for River Plate striker Julian Alvarez in the January transfer window.
Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain are also in the mix as they seek a replacement for Madrid-bound Mbappe.
