Real Madrid’s season has been riddled with injuries. The absence of Thibaut Courtois just before the campaign began cast a shadow over the pitch, leaving behind an irreplaceable void between the goalposts.
The Merengues attempted to soften the blow of Courtois’ ACL injury by acquiring Kepa Arrizabalaga on a season-long loan from Chelsea.
With a dominant first-place position in both La Liga and their Champions League group, it suffices to say Kepa has done well guarding the sticks for Real Madrid this season, albeit with some help from backup Andry Lunin, who is making up for Kepa’s temporary absence.
Now, according to Matteo Moretto, Real Madrid are considering whether to buy Kepa permanently or not and how they will do it.
There are no negotiations with Chelsea as of today, but the intention is there, and the decision is starting to be contemplated by members of the Madrid hierarchy.
While Lunin is currently doing a fine job for Real Madrid, coach Carlo Ancelotti has already declared Kepa as the starting goalkeeper, as he is set to reclaim his spot in the XI after returning from injury.

In both the Champions League and La Liga, the goalie will be placed higher than Lunin in the pecking order, which is a testament to how much the club values him.
While Courtois’ return is imminent next season, the 29-year-old keeper is keen on continuing in the Spanish capital, having claimed previously:
“Staying at Real Madrid? Of course, yes, I still want that.”
The Spaniard was closing in on a move to Bayern Munich, but when Real Madrid came knocking, he did not think twice.
And now, the possibility of him staying for longer than initially expected is in the offing.
