Real Madrid consider entering the market for another signing in key position

Real Madrid are reeling from the disappointing 4-0 defeat at the hands of PSG in the semi-finals of the FIFA Club World Cup earlier this week.

There will be a fresh assessment of the squad following the tournament in the USA, with some exits on the cards while more signings not ruled out either.

Another centre-back on top of Huijsen?

Indeed, MARCA reports that Real Madrid are now considering the idea of signing another centre-back despite having brought in Dean Huijsen this summer.

Real Madrid’s concerns at centre-back remain unresolved. The Club World Cup was seen as a testing ground for a position that has caused growing unease within the club.

While Huijsen has proven himself capable of taking on a starting role, the same cannot be said for the rest.

The performances of Raul Asencio and Antonio Rudiger, coupled with David Alaba’s injury, have only deepened the doubts. Eder Militao returned to the pitch, but his appearance came after the match against PSG was already decided.

Even before the trip to the US, sources at Valdebebas did not rule out the signing of another centre-back. The final decision hinged on how the current squad responded. That response has been underwhelming.

Ibrahima Konate an option

In recent days, Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate has resurfaced as a possible option for Real Madrid.

The Frenchman’s refusal to renew his contract with the Premier League champions opens a door, provided the Reds decide to put him on the market.

In that scenario, Liverpool are likely to demand a fee of around €50 million – a figure that Los Blancos would be unwilling to match given his contract situation.
