La Liga giants Real Madrid have this week tied up a deal for the next high-profile addition to the club’s first-team ranks.

The player primed to link up with Xabi Alonso’s squad for next season? Álvaro Carreras.

The name of defender Carreras has of course been a prominent one in the headlines in Spain’s capital throughout the summer to date.

This comes after widespread confirmation was forthcoming that the 22-year-old had been earmarked as the priority target to reinforce the left-back ranks in Real Madrid’s squad.

Negotiations, in turn, had long been kicked into gear with the board at Portuguese heavyweights Benfica.

And as alluded to above, late this week, at long last, these talks look set to bear fruit for Los Blancos.

As per a report from transfer insider Fabrizio Romano:

‘Álvaro Carreras to Real Madrid, here we go! Verbal agreement in place between Real and Benfica. Real negotiated to pay €50m in multiple installments instead of one-payment clause. As soon as Man Utd confirm they don’t activate buy back clause, Álvaro will travel.’
