It did not take long after Kylian Mbappe’s decision for Real Madrid to begin scouting a replacement. The La Liga champions did indeed suffer a big blow through the Frenchman’s rejection but now seem to have decided to put that money to better use.According to reports from Tomas Gonzalez, Los Blancos are going to try to sign Robert Lewandowski in June as an alternative. The Polish striker has been breaking records for fun in the Bundesliga but seems to have fallen out with the management at Bayern Munich. As a result, he has decided to leave and take up a new challenge.Barcelona were said to be leading the race to sign Lewandowski and have reportedly already made their first offer. The other European giant trying to secure the striker’s transfer is Chelsea, but the London based club first have to sort out the future of Romelu Lukaku.Lewandowski scored 35 goals in the recently concluded Bundesliga season and also provided three assists in the process. Across all competitions, he touched the 50 goal mark once again this season. While he has certainly been amongst the best strikers in world football recently, it seems difficult to fathom how he would fit in with Karim Benzema. The French striker is not only Real Madrid’s starting number nine but also the club’s best player. It would be wise for Florentino Perez to sign a young forward who could eventually replace Benzema and not chase the signature of a 33-year-old player in the same position. Nevertheless, it remains to be seen as to what decision the club administration take in this regard.
