It looked as if this would be the final year at Real Madrid Castilla for legendary forward Raul Gonzalez, but he will take charge of a sixth year at the B team.
Raul had once again been heavily linked with a move back to Germany, with multiple reports claiming that he had decided to take on a new experience abroad. Union Berlin and Hamburg were cited as potential destinations, while he interviewed for the Villarreal position earlier this season, and was a candidate for the Sevilla job this summer. Raul had even admitted publicly that he was considering other options.
However Marca say that Raul has told the club he will continue at Castilla, albeit Los Blancos are aware he would still leave for the right offer. President Florentino Perez will not move Raul on, due to his legendary status at the club.
His continuity comes after his worst season in charge of Castilla. Finishing 10th, Castilla looked at one stage as though they might be dragged into a relegation battle, having made the play-offs the previous season. It also means Alvaro Arbeloa, thought of by many at the club as a potential first-team manager in the future, will remain as under-19 manager.
