After a lengthy transfer saga spanning several years, the 25-year-old at last came to the decision to depart Paris Saint-Germain, to test his talents in Spain.

Mbappé, in turn, made his way to Madrid earlier this month, before being guided around the grounds of the club which he will call home for the next five years.

And it was during as much that the exchange alluded to above was forthcoming.

After meeting face-to-face for the very first time since confirmation of their joining of forces for next season, Carlo Ancelotti and Mbappé were caught on camera deep in conversation.

A photo of the pair subsequently went viral online, giving rise to widespread chatter regarding what exactly would have been under discussion.

And, on Thursday, Real Madrid’s headmaster has provided an insight into precisely that.

After himself reposting the photo of he and Mbappé, Ancelotti was asked what he said to his new attacker extraordinaire during his first day at the club.

And the Italian was as transparent as ever in his response, explaining to John Obi Mikel’s Obi One Podcast:

“What did I tell Mbappé in the picture I posted? Only two things. I gave him a warm welcome and told him to go rest. To go on holiday.”
