Real Madrid boss Ancelotti reveals Arda Güler’s reaction to substitution being cancelled | OneFootball

Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti has provided an insight into the reaction of Arda Güler to what proved another frustrating evening for the youngster.

Real, of course, marked their return to action a short time ago, welcoming Sevilla to the Santiago Bernabéu for a La Liga clash.

Midfielder Güler, meanwhile, was forced to make do with a place on the bench once more, despite the host of personnel problems facing Los Blancos at present.

And yet, as proceedings in Madrid entered the closing quarter of an hour, the 19-year-old looked set to be afforded a rare chance to showcase his talents.

With his side still in search of an all-important winner, and Los Blancos’ attackers coming up frustrated time and time again in efforts to break down a stubborn Sevilla backline, Güler was instructed to prepare himself for an imminent introduction to the fray.

Just as the Turk was ready to take to the pitch, however, the deadlock was broken.

Minutes after his own substitution off the bench, Luka Modrić conjured up a moment of magic, driving a wonderful strike home off the inside the post from 20 yards.

As much resulted in a shift in tactics on the part of the evening’s hosts, with Güler, as a result, informed that he would in fact remain on the bench.

Speaking to the media on the back of the full-time whistle in Madrid, it therefore came as little surprise when the name of the summer addition to his squad was put to Carlo Ancelotti.

This of course comes amid widespread speculation in the media that Güler is fast becoming disillusioned with his lack of playing time.

After first confirming that Modric’s goal did indeed prove decisive in altering his plans, though, Ancelotti went on to assure that Güler took the decision ‘very well’:

“Arda Güler? I had a plan with Arda before Modric’s goal, then I changed my mind. Arda understands it very well. If he didn’t understand it, nothing could happen.”
