Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti has this week aired his grievances with the new-look Champions League system.

Real Madrid, of course, are one of a whole host of high-profile clubs facing up to an extra round of fixtures on the continent over the weeks ahead.

After already being forced to take to the pitch eight times as part of the new league phase, the competition holders will be forced into a further pair of outings, in a playoff tie for a place in the Champions League’s Last-16.

Whilst the new format in Europe’s premiere club competition was initially widely praised, the reality of the situation has now begun to set in…

And as much has given rise to widespread complaints regarding the sheer number of games now required to advance to the knockout rounds.

Speaking to the media in the aftermath of his side’s victory over Stade Brestois on Wednesday, the subject of the new Champions League setup was in turn put to the aforementioned Carlo Ancelotti.

And Real Madrid’s headmaster was not shy in admitting:

“I don’t like this new format. Too many games.”
