Real Madrid are preparing themselves for a big summer transfer window with potential top-quality signings like Kylian Mbappe and Alphonso Davies being targeted.

At the same time, the Merengues are not losing sight of promising young talents in the market as they have their sights on Lille teenage defender Leny Yoro, who is also a target for PSG and Chelsea.

Jarrad Branthwaite on Real Madrid’s agenda

Another young and promising defender who is said to be on the radars of Real Madrid is Everton starlet Jarrad Branthwaite.

Indeed, as per journalist Dean Jones (h/t Manchester Evening News), Real Madrid are rivalling Manchester United in the race for the 21-year-old youngster, whose market value stands at €30 million.

Despite Everton’s struggles this season, Branthwaite has stood out for his performances and has even earned a call-up to the England national team.

Manchester United are eager for new defensive reinforcements amidst the uncertain futures of players like Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof and have identified Branthwaite as a target.

But, Real Madrid could intervene and play spoilsport as they also rate the 21-year-old highly.

The Ancelotti connection

It must be remembered that Los Blancos’ manager Carlo Ancelotti worked with Branthwaite back when he was the manager of Everton. In fact, it was the Italian who handed the defender his senior debut for the Toffees.

As per the report, Ancelotti always rated the youngster highly and has been impressed by how he has grown over the past couple of years.

While Real Madrid are in the market for a centre-back, as things stand, Leny Yoro appears to be the chosen one and is likely to be preferred over Branthwaite.

But the Everton man seems to be an option on the table and could be seen as a backup plan.
